It's been a few years now since we were able to run the program, we missed a lot of kids over that time. I am proud to say that we are back and ready to continue on with the education and experience with the next cast of anglers!
Stay tuned for updates on our Facebook page. @TNCYouthFishingProgram

"Kids love fishing, and police personnel know the benefits of kids enjoying healthy outdoor activities. This inspired the Police Association of Ontario to team up with Bob Izumi, Canadian Tire Corporation and Fishing Forever to create a grassroots program that encourages youngsters to go fishing".
If you have children who love to fish or show an interest, be sure to load up the vehicle, grab your friends and family and share some laughs while making memories. Come hang out with some great anglers and fish off the docks in Seeley's Bay. "Kids, Cops & Canadian Tire Fishing Days program is a way for parents and other adults to establish productive and healthy relationships with children. Since its inception the program has grown to include over 70 events annually in Ontario and across Canada, and to date almost 100,000 youngsters have been able to experience the joy of fishing. This is a true success story that would not have been possible without the ongoing support of the Police Association of Ontario, Canadian Tire and all of the hardworking volunteers who donate their time and effort to the program." Your host "Big" Jim McLaughlin of Just Fishing will be there to answer all of your fishing related questions. Fishing goes from 9 - 11am Be sure to spread the word, SEE YOU THERE! The Next Cast Youth Fishing Program http://kidsandcops.ca/ http://www.justfishing.ca/ If you have or know of friends that have kids, bring them out to this fun filled event.
For all of you kids and adults who want to try your hand at casting, tying fishing knots or just want to talk about fishing, be sure to stop by our area this Sunday, April 28 starting at 10am at the YMCA at 100 Wright Crescent, Kingston, ON
I am also going to be "fishing" for interest in running other courses teaching fishing to youth. This course will be open to any 10-13 year olds, boys and girls but to a select number. It will be slightly modified from the current course we are running right now, but the information will remain the same that is being presented. All we are looking for at this time is interest, your name, your age, and your contact information so we can call on you as we move forward. This course may be taught on-site at the YMCA here in Kingston once a week. Another local angler will be on-site as well helping out and his fishing rig (truck and boat) will be front and center for all of you (me) to admire. Thanks to Nelson Pereira for joining us to spend time teaching the tricks of the trade to our next generation of anglers. Nelson is the Club President of the Rideau Lakes Bassmasters and he knows many of the hot spots on our local lakes so look through his tackle box for the "go-to-lures." On that note there will be a raffle to win a day fishing with Nelson and I this summer, dates pending. Five names will be drawn and the individuals will be contacted in order of the draw. If the first can't attend then the second and so on will be contacted. If you are between the ages of 10 and 13 be sure to get your name in. It was a great opportunity for Wil Hofmann, picture below who was the lucky draw selected for 2018. Parents and guardians often accompany their children on fishing expeditions, so it's also important that they learn a bit about the sport so they can enjoy this quality time spent with each other. http://www.kingston.ymca.ca/ Hope to see you there! Darren 2018 Participants 2017 Participants We're very excited to write that we are underway with our 3rd year for the program. Sponsors are joining, the youth are being recruited, product is beginning to flow in. It's a very rewarding time when all of this comes together, and for one reason, our youth!
I said it after the first year and again after the second, how can this get any better ... but yet it does. This is only made possible on the level it's offered due to the support of local and distant businesses stepping up. If you can share this program among your networks especially through social media to help draw attention to not only what we're doing but also to encourage others to follow the same path and step up and do something to get our young community members involved in the outdoors. More great news to follow as the season unfolds, stay tuned! Please take a moment and go through the Facebook page @TNCYouthFishingProgram to see the weekly documented footage taken by Bernard Clark Photography. Also with the ending of a season program comes the video footage that includes moments from all 6 weeks of class as well as the final bass fishing tournament produced by Jacques Dupel. Thanks to him for volunteering and taking on this task, it's been great having you on-board, unfortunately he is off to further his schooling and will be heading West. We will be in need of a new recruit to shoot the footage and produce the end of the program video. On to the next one! Bass season is just around the corner, opening day is June 16 so be sure to stop by the Kingston, Division Street location to stock up and be ready for the big day!
